About Us

Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action was founded by physicians who recognized their oath to do no harm encompassed more than just the patients they treat. They joined a growing national movement of clinicians and health professionals who recognize that climate change is already impacting the health of the patients and communities they serve.

Today, OCCA has grown into a coalition of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals around Ohio who are concerned about the impacts of climate change on human health. Together they are leveraging their voices and expertise to make a difference.

OCCA’s goal is to engage health care professionals, medical professional societies’ Ohio chapters, and health care organizations in climate and health advocacy. We hope to educate fellow clinicians, patients, the public, and policymakers about the human health impacts of climate change in our state while advocating for health-promoting climate solutions.

To do this, we use our voices as trusted messengers to spread the word locally and nationally. You will see our members writing op-eds and letters to the editor, testifying at legislative hearings, giving interviews to various media outlets, participating in medical education related to climate change and health, and engaging in community outreach to promote the protection of public health through climate change mitigation.

Mission: Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action advocates for climate change solutions that protect the health of our patients and communities.

Vision: Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action will support a network of clinicians throughout the state that will engage with patients, colleagues, the public, and policymakers – through education, advocacy, and community outreach – to protect the health and prosperity of Ohioans from climate change.
