The Climate Change and Health: Implications for Clinical Practice symposium will educate and inspire healthcare professionals and students to take actionable steps to help reduce the health harming impacts of climate change by providing tools to develop implementable solutions on an individual, department or organization-wide level as well as showcase opportunities for advocacy to foster positive change at all legislative levels.

Keynote Speakers

  • Dr. Jay Lemery

    Dr. Jay Lemery is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is Chief of the Section of Wilderness and Environmental Medicine. He is a Past-President of the Wilderness Medical Society and has provided medical direction to National Science Foundation subcontractors operating at both poles, most recently serving as the EMS Medical Director for the United States Antarctic Program. Dr. Lemery has an academic expertise in austere and remote medical care as well as the effects of climate change on human health. He serves as a consultant for the Climate and Health Program at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and sits on the National Academy of Medicine’s (IOM) Roundtable on Environmental Health Sciences, Research, and Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians was a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

  • Dr. Aparna Bole

    Aparna Bole, MD, FAAP, is a pediatrician at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. She is particularly interested in the intersection between environmental stewardship, environmental justice, and pediatric public health. She currently serves as chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Environmental Health and Climate Change. She has served in numerous environmental health leadership roles, including as co-chair of the Healthcare Without Harm board of directors; a member of the State of Ohio’s Lead Advisory Council, the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition’s steering committee, the Trust for Public Land’s Ohio Advisory Council, and the Ohio Environmental Council’s board of directors; and a founding advisory council member of the Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action.
